By Lyein Ben Yalo, Port Moresby, Sunday 23rd October 2022.
PNGTA Union Executives who have been hiding under the banner of PNGTA and turning the union office into a den of thieves and thugs have been arrested by police and all union vehicles and other assets have grounded, surrendered and impounded!
The National President Mr. Aita Sanangepe was arrested and charged but was released on a K4,000 bail.
More arrests will be made.
PNGTA members and Teachers in NCD are preparing to petition the Industrial Registrar to adhere to the teachers struggle to rescue their only registered voice, and their watchdog and their only source of refuge and shelter from abuse, mismanagement, lack of performance, corruption and other illegal activities conducted by the so called executives of the union in broad daylight.
The Industrial Registrar, as being the only authorized government agency being the custodian of all the registered trade unions in the country is responsible for all the mess that PNGTA is going through even in the past to date
The Industrial Registrar is responsible for immediately stepping in to correct this corruption and, mismanagement of funds, abuse of powers and authority and the illegal purchase of properties in the name if the union.
Teachers throughout the country are saying;
"ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"
and we are even prepared to take the matter to the ministerial level so that the Minister responsible for Labour and Industrial Relations Hon Brian Kramer and other stake holders like the PNGTUC for possible remedies.
Let this call be a final call to whoever is responsible to take heed and step in to correct the discrepancies faced by this bleeding trade union.
People who are found to be implicated have no place to hide but to exit the union Enroute Bomana.
We are setting a precedence now and the latter will follow the former in this manner.
Teachers in NCD have formed a group called "OPERATION RAUSIM CORRUPTION" and this group will remain in the future to protect scrutinize and keep all the checks and balances of the activities conducted by the Union from time to time even after the coming General Election.
When the new executives are elected into office, we will establish this anti-corruption group and it must be funded by the members' subscription fees for its operations.
It will consists of a lawyer, members of the fraud squad, CID and head teachers of selected schools, NDoE and the TSC reps including the reps from the office of the Industrial Registrar and PNGTUC.
This group will ensure that the PNGTA executives do comply with all rules and procedures to deal with all matters pertaining to the union and it's members.
Time is up for a radical change and innovation in the PNGTA with a renewed approach by having in place mechanisms to focus and concentrate on the dynamics of a sound industrial relations advocacy system for the benefit of the union members.
THE PNGTA UNION MUST STAND BY IT'S MEMBERS' CALL ALONE!
In the future, those who think outside this box and try to deny the members rights and the members existence will securely
👉 Exit Enroute Bomana!
And his law firm partner, former Queensland crown prosecutor Greg Sheppard, is shown on camera saying that the "only way" to bribe foreign politicians and avoid getting caught is to pay "small dribs and drabs" disguised as commercial transactions.
Both Mr Sheppard and Mr Maladina are considered to be close to PNG Prime Minister Peter O'Neill and senior ministers and advisers, upon whom Canberra relies heavily for providing the Manus Island immigration detention centre. Mr Sheppard was appointed in 2014 as a "resident" director of the company that provides security to the centre, but resigned in January.
But covertly-filmed footage using operatives posing as Australian businessmen opens an unprecedented window into how Australian lawyers, accountants and migration agents enable corrupt politicians to undermine their impoverished home countries and shift billions of dollars into the relative safety of Australian bank accounts and real estate.
The footage filmed by anti-corruption NGO Global Witness exposes deep complacency among Australian politicians and enforcement agencies, as well as large holes in Australia's regulatory regime.
On Tuesday, Fairfax Media revealed how corrupt high-ranking Malaysian officials had teamed with Australian developers to launder kickbacks through a multi-million dollar student apartment complex in Caulfield, Melbourne. Those officials relied on a local financial services firm and auditing firm to create offshore companies used to facilitate the transactions.
The PNG sting operation goes much further, showing Australian lawyers coaching prospective clients on how to move suspect funds without attracting police attention.
"It would have to be something that didn't raise suspicion, something that was ostensibly commercial," says Mr Sheppard, to the under-cover operative.
"The days of banging a million bucks into this secret numbered account in Singapore is over," he says.
Mr Sheppard acts for "prominent clients in Papua New Guinea, including Prime Ministers, Ministers of State and businessmen", according to his website. His clients include senior figures in the government of Mr O'Neill, who is considered an ally of Canberra, and has been implicated in several huge financial scandals.
