OPPOSITION AGAINST CHANGES TO CLIMATE CHANGE ACT:  The Opposition Leader, Joseph Lelang, has opposed the Government’s decision to amend the country’s Climate Change Act, saying that the changes are not suitable for the country. Mr. Lelang said amending sections 38 and 39 of the Act to impose a levy or tax on fuel and carbon-content products coming into the country will definitely create worse problems for the people. He said inflation will kill off the small sectors; in fact, many have now closed their doors. Lelang said the importance of Climate Change and its effects cannot be denied, citing the affected marine provinces and parts of the highlands; however, the context of the bill is not suited to Papua New Guinea (PNG) and its people. The Opposition Leader said the Amendment applies to countries under Annex 1, and under this category are countries that are the major polluters in the environment. The  Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi tweeted about his arrival in our country, and the comments from the people of India on this post regarding a warm welcoming gesture shown by the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, James Marape touching PM Modi's leg as a sign of respect.  Based on the comments, most of Indians did not expect PM Marape to welcome their PM with such a gesture. They are praising our PM Marape's action and stating that this act alone will greatly contribute to strengthening of the bilateral ties between PNG and India.

With the support of Prime Minister James Marape, the 395 Beds Hospital will take the strain away from the Port Moresby General Hospital.  Others include K39 million in cancer facility, K17 million to be paid now in intervention cardiology, K16 million in cervical center nation-wide setup and K90 million paid for upgrade of level 4 hospitals in several districts.
