MEDIA STATEMENT BY HON. JAMES NOMANE.  Appeal to MPs to Put the Country First (Monday 7 April 2025) Is Papua New Guinea better off since Honourable James Marape became Prime Minister in 2019? This is the key question that all MPs must ask themselves before the upcoming Vote of No Confidence (VONC) in April. All MPs must put the country first and not limit their focus to districts and provinces.  From 2019 to 2025 the cumulative budget total of the Marape government has been K156.8 billion, comprised of K39.9 billion (25%) debt financing and K116.9 billion (75%) tax revenue. This K39.9 billion debt is the highest incurred by any government since Independence and by the end of 2025 our national debt will reach K65.0 billion. This high level of debt will reduce investment in health and education and put more pressure on loan repayments.   We cannot see the cumulative effect of spending K156.8 billion in 6 years? In my Term as Planning Minister, I've elevated the Central Hospital to a urgent project to be constructed starting next year.

With the support of Prime Minister James Marape, the 395 Beds Hospital will take the strain away from the Port Moresby General Hospital.

Others include K39 million in cancer facility, K17 million to be paid now in intervention cardiology, K16 million in cervical center nation-wide setup and K90 million paid for upgrade of level 4 hospitals in several districts.

Next year major intervention will be made in health including the Medical University project.
On the satellite;

Everyday we don't have eyes in the sky( satellite) ---
we loose billions of kina to illegal fishing, illegal logging, lack of border security, high cost of rural communications, we can't even do e-education, e-health, e-commerce and real time electronic voting during election will just be a dream. And other usages for this technology.

Technology is the future. What is K1.4 billion if we loose to illegal fishing and logging an estimated K1 billion every year?

Kumul Satellite One in my view is a critical national enabling infrastructure for all these programs to bounce off from- Germany OHB and SpaceX are not small players to be not providing a state of the art satwlite Solutions. This is 3 Years of work I've put into trying to get this project off the ground and I will not apologize to anyone for trying to get it done for PNG.

I will also take full responsibility if the intended outcome is not achieved.

Thank you
