Dream Big, Take Care, and Make History: The Inspiring Journey of Hon. Aimos Joseph Akem.

Back in mid 2014 in Gogosi Street Gerehu 6, NCD I was sitting near my uncle's trade store where I used to live.

Graduated from University in 2011 but couldn't get a full time job so went back to village but 2014 was the year I decided to come to POM to look for jobs. And mid 2014 was the time when I was approached by a sepik lad named Carlos Nayau.

He was renting in the next house in the same street. Little did I know that he was the Finance Manager of Marie Stopes International (PNG).

He approached me and asked boldly as if I had been to a school. I told him I finished from UPNG 3 years ago. He said he will talk to the then Operations and Finance Director named Raheel Sheik, a Pakistan national.

A month later Carlos brought me to the Pakistani for a interview for a admin Clerk job. Well obviously I answered his questions well but only one question he asked remains a Q&A for a lifetime.

He asked' "where will you be in the 10 year years?"

I gave a very short answer when Carlos was there - I said Sir, I will be in parliament of PNG by then. The director laughed out loud and Carlos seemed very angry.

The Director expected me to be the manager of Administration or some big positions in Marie Stopes or even help shape Marie stopes.

I being in parliament in the next 10 years was a stupid answer to them both. Raheel told me you are not needed on such organizations. He blamed Carlos for bringing in a wrong person. Carlos was very angry at me for picking me in the streets.

Deep down He was thinking why did I bring this guy to Marie Stopes Office at Waigani. I smiled and repeated again and said I will fight for Marie Stopes and support Family planning issues from Parliament.

That really made the Pakistani very angry.

Cut the story short, I was reluctantly given a job as a admin clerk and was strictly on 3 months probations and to be Monitored closely. Anyways, was there for 3 years and resigned to go work in Enga with Enga Provincial Government. Rest is History!

Elected in November 2023 and is exactly 9 years from the day of Interview.

Want to share my story to tell you all that "Always Dream Big from wherever you are and Just Take Care!" Dreams are free, it doesn't cost you to dream. Dream as much as you can for one or two Will always come to pass with God's grace but Like I always say Take Care and be good to many.

Please Dream More Dream Big but Take Care Always and be good to many.

Happy New Year
