Governor Allan Bird Demands Marape's Removal Allan Bird, the governor of East Sepik, is speaking out against how Papua New Guinea (PNG) is being run. The explosion of Annette Sete as PNG's biggest retail SME success story of recent times culminated in her win as SME of the Year last night – and the keys to her own Hino truck from Ela Motors!

Earlier in the night at the annual PNG SME Awards, after picking up the SME Retailer of the Year for the 3rd year in a row, the founder of the Maku Gifts accessories and fabric chain (now with 6 shops and employing 67 people nationwide), made the surprise call to re-gift the award to another SME "who has grown with us" – Barata PNG's Christopher Lam, whose line of street apparel – from caps and bucket hats to men's shirts – are sold in her shops.

"Tonight I'd like to help another SME in the space grow as well," she said, adding to Christopher as he joined her on the APEC Haus stage, "Sorry to put you on the spot!"

Another big winner on the night was SME Business runner-up Evelyn Mopafi of Apo Meri – who sells the bilums, baskets, pottery and handcrafts of over 1000 Eastern Highlands women through her POM craft market stall and Facebook page – who won K20,000 from BSP, and also K5000 from Women's Microbank for the Janet Sape Resilient Business Woman Award, along with the Kina Bank eCommerce Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

Congratulations to all the winners and nominees!
