The Department of Justice and Attorney General Very Irresponsible. What a shame.

1. Dr Erik Kwa, Secretary for the Department of Justice and Attorney General was involved in an accident along the Hiritano Highway on the 17 October 2022. 

2. According to the reports, Kwa was driving a DJAG vehicle, white Mazda BT-50 vehicle registration BGK 514 and was travelling at high speed when the vehicle turned over and rolled several times. The vehicle was badly damaged. 

3. Kwa and his other offsider fortunately did not sustain any major injuries, however another Female DJAG officer who was also in the same vehicle sustained serious neck Injuries and was admitted to the Port Moresby General Hospital. Unfortunately, the female officer passed away on Saturday, 5th November at the Port Moresby General Hospital. 

4. To the bewilderment of the traumatized Staff and family members of the deceased, the Late Officer was Just left at the POM Gen for treatment whilst Secretary Kwa himself and his other offsider were treated for minor injuries at the Pacific International Hospital. She could have been saved if the DJAG had arranged for her to be treated urgently at the Pacific international Hospital along with the Secretary and his other offsider!!! 

5. The damaged vehicle was towed back to Port Moresby where it was left on the 1st floor car park of the WNB Haus where DJAG is housed, hidden with canvas all these times. It was only on Monday 07 Nov that the vehicle was towed to the police station, but only after the deceased relatives laid their formal complaint.

6. Otherwise, there was no formal police accident report from the DJAG staff because the staff feared the Secretary Dr Kwa if they report him.

7. DJAG Officers are concerned as to why Dr Kwa is yet to be charged or otherwise to report or surrender himself to the police. He is still attending to work as normal. This is a serious offence of Dangerous driving causing death and manslaughter and why is it taking time for police to arrest him. Is it because he is the Secretary for Justice Department?

8. We call on the Attorney General, Minister for public service and the National Executive

council to sideline the Secretary and allow him to go through the normal criminal process like anybody else.

This is also to ensure that free and fair investigations can be conducted at DJAG regarding the motor vehicle accident and further to be fair to the relatives of the deceased.
