Lawyer Gloria Salika Arrested and Charged With 83 Counts of Allegedly Involving CMCA Funds Totaling K268 Million Belonging to Western Province And CJ Sir Gibbs Salika (Father) Stepped Down From Official Duties For An Indefinite Period.
CHIEF JUSTICE STEPS DOWN FROM OFFICIAL DUTIES FOR AN INDEFINITE PERIOD
Justice Minister and Attorney General Pila Niningi, has announced that Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika, has stepped down from official duties for an indefinite period, as of yesterday-Wednesday 5th October 2022.
Minister Niningi says that this was done to protect the integrity of the office of the Chief Justice, following the arrest of his daughter, and a tribunal hearing into a Member of Parliament.
Gloria Salika a lawyer by profession was arrested and charged in connection with 83 counts of fraud-related charges, allegedly involving Non-Community Mine Continuation Agreement or CMCA funds, totaling K268 million, belonging to the Western Province people.
The case is set for trial at the National Court sometime this month.
Mr. Niningi says that another reason was over the Leadership Tribunal case involving the Minister for Labour and Immigration and Madang MP Bryan Kramer.
He said. back in 2019, Sir Gibbs had lodged a formal complaint for police to investigate a social media post by Mr Kramer, on the role of the Chief Justice, in relation to the case of Peter O' Neill.
Mr. Niningi said that the public might view that the Chief Justice can play a part in the overall outcome of the leadership tribunal decision because of this.
''Observance of fundamental principles and values is crucial in such situations'', said Niningi.

PNG YOUNG SME OF THE YEAR: Inspiring story of Pettison Brownie. By Lily PNG Magazine How's this for an inspiring story?! Pettison Brownie is a young Central/Oro man who is still trying to complete his schooling through FODE (Flexible Open & Distance Education) while working part-time at BNG Trading stacking pallets in their warehouse – and on the side he has started an SME squeezing local fruits and creating nutritious fresh juices to sell. Check out the flavours under his 'Petty' label – lemonade, passionade, melonade and orangeade! Pettison, 24, whose SME is called Easy Yoke Fresh Juice Product, won the Young Entrepreneur Award at the annual SME Awards on Thursday night and we applaud his initiative in taking on the big juice companies to sell an affordable and delicious 100% natural juice. "We use all local PNG fruit, not imported," Pettison said. "Our aim is to supply to hotels and restaurants." #SMEAwards
The explosion of Annette Sete as PNG's biggest retail SME success story of recent times culminated in her win as SME of the Year last night – and the keys to her own Hino truck from Ela Motors! Earlier in the night at the annual PNG SME Awards, after picking up the SME Retailer of the Year for the 3rd year in a row, the founder of the Maku Gifts accessories and fabric chain (now with 6 shops and employing 67 people nationwide), made the surprise call to re-gift the award to another SME "who has grown with us" – Barata PNG's Christopher Lam, whose line of street apparel – from caps and bucket hats to men's shirts – are sold in her shops. "Tonight I'd like to help another SME in the space grow as well," she said, adding to Christopher as he joined her on the APEC Haus stage, "Sorry to put you on the spot!" Another big winner on the night was SME Business runner-up Evelyn Mopafi of Apo Meri – who sells the bilums, baskets, pottery and handcraf
