MEDIA STATEMENT BY HON. JAMES NOMANE.  Appeal to MPs to Put the Country First (Monday 7 April 2025) Is Papua New Guinea better off since Honourable James Marape became Prime Minister in 2019? This is the key question that all MPs must ask themselves before the upcoming Vote of No Confidence (VONC) in April. All MPs must put the country first and not limit their focus to districts and provinces.  From 2019 to 2025 the cumulative budget total of the Marape government has been K156.8 billion, comprised of K39.9 billion (25%) debt financing and K116.9 billion (75%) tax revenue. This K39.9 billion debt is the highest incurred by any government since Independence and by the end of 2025 our national debt will reach K65.0 billion. This high level of debt will reduce investment in health and education and put more pressure on loan repayments.   We cannot see the cumulative effect of spending K156.8 billion in 6 years? Where are the notable public investments that are making ...

RAYS OF HOPE

PNG is set to benefit from this Program called "Rays of Hope" championed by the International Atomic Energy Agency to ensure Radiation Therapy is made widely available for Cancer treatment.

Cooperation with IAEA will also see help in so many other areas like Agriculture; climate change etc apart from Health.

We attended the 66th Annual Convention for the IAEA here at Vienna where I was invited to give a speech on the nations position with a delegate that comprised of Secretary Liko; Director General for Nisit; Dr Paki Molume (CEO PMGH); Dr Gua Tau (Dep Sec Health); Dr Peter Olali (Clinical Oncologist) and George Otto.

By the end of 2023, we hope to fully establish a Cancer Center here at PMGH. It requires a lot of expertise and finance and that's where the IAEA will come on board to assist (They've also assisted us in so many areas).

It requires a CRITICAL CORE comprising clinical experts to nuclear scientists and other technical areas and the task is daunting but the MARAPE-ROSSO Government is quite focused to help get this services off the ground to help our people who are affected.

We will sign the Country Program Framework 2022-2027 on Friday to enable us to access help from IAEA for the next 5 years.

Help for our cancer patients may not come overnight but surely, your government has set the wheels in motion through budgetary support and through bilateral programs like this. Definitely we have Rays of Hope coming our way.
